Easter Yoga Retreat in Spain

2nd April 2021 - 5th April 2021

Andalusian Yoga Retreat (Easter Week)

Life Beyond Primary Series

Introducing Intermediate Series and Advanced Pranayama with Mark Ansari and Raquel Salvador

Friday 2 April 2021 – Monday 5 April 2021 (3 Nights)

600 Euros per person (individual accommodation)

The focus of this retreat is to take us beyond the practice of the primary series of Ashtanga Yoga and introduce the back-bending postures outlined at the beginning of intermediate series.

As you may well know each series of the Ashtanga yoga system has a specific focus. The primary series is known as “Yoga Chikitsa” or Yoga Therapy and is thought to therapeutically realign the musculo-skeletal system. The intermediate series is known as “Nadi Shodhana” or Purification of the Nadhis and is designed to cleanse the subtle nerve channels that run throughout the body, thereby facilitating the flow of prana.  On a more physiological note, the practice of primary series or other types of modern day Hatha yoga seems to place greater emphasis on forward bending which is all well and good for a few years but has been proven to create imbalances in the body in the long term.

On this retreat we will learn how to safely perform and modify the first third of intermediate series which comprises a sequence of progressively more challenging back-bends in order to initiate the purification of the nadhis and correct any physical imbalances that may have developed.  In order to accentuate Nadhi Shodhana we will also learn specific pranayama techniques and mudras.
Travel to and from the venue:
  • La Moraleda is only 30km from Malaga airport and the beach
  • The picturesque village of Pizarra is a short walk away and has a few shops and some very nice restaurants and cafes but if you wish to go further afield or to the beach you will need to rent a car from the airport
  • Taxis from the Malaga airport or Malaga city centre will cost about 30 to 35 euros one way.

La Moraleda estate is over a hundred years old and covers seven hectares of land, most of which is covered by orange and avocado trees. The cultivation of the plantation is under strict ecological guidelines. Within the estate, five rural houses have been constructed and architecturally designed in the popular Andalusian style and are named after typical Andalusian trees and flowers, “Los Naranjos”, “La Jacaranda”, “La Buganvilla”, “La Madreselva” and “Los Rosales”.

They are all fully equipped with fire places, hot water, televisions, washing machines, refrigerators, bathrooms and kitchens with ovens. “Los Naranjos”, “La Jacaranda” and “La Buganvilla” share a common swimming pool and barbecue facilities. “La Madreselva” has her own individual swimming pool and barbecue facilities.

All yoga practice will take place in a large wooden shala next to the lake and fountain.

Visitors can walk freely about the estate and pick oranges and other fruit for personal consumption during their stay.

La Moraleda is only 15 minutes drive away from the spectacular lakes of  “El Chorro” which offer amazing swimming, hiking and canoeing opportunities.
